Career Day for People with Disabilities

The American Association of People with Disabilities held it's Career Day Friday at Broome Workforce New York. The program helped participants with disabilities take advantage of a variety of programs, like how wages affect Social Security Disability and SSI, while also giving them advice on applying for and keeping a job.

"Some people are discouraged from looking for work. Because of their disability they are discouraged by others to look for work and if they can know their possibilities and they know the right information as far as what's going to happen when they go back to work, how work might effect their benefit, then they can go into it with more confidence."said Randy Cook, Disability Resource Coordinator.

They also met with workforce professionals who gave them job search tips and career advice. This highlights a week to bring awareness to November, being National Disability Awareness Month.
