Mayor David Pushes to Ease City Regulations on Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

By Molly Darrow.
Could more electric vehicle (EV) charging stations be coming to Binghamton?

Mayor Rich David is pushing for changes to the City’s zoning code to make this happen.

David released plans in front of ScottTech Integrated Solutions, a facility that has a charging station; one of a handful in the city.

David plans to ease regulations on EV charging stations in City Council's next work session.

"By cutting through red tape and streamlining our code, we're making it easier for developers in ensuring that Binghamton will have the technological infrastructure in place when electric vehicles become truly mainstream," said Mayor David.

In addition to code changes, the City will submit an application to the NYS Energy Research Development Authority's Cleaner, Greener Communities Program. The City is looking for a $10,000 award for adopting streamlined permitting related to these charging stations.
