IRS Scams Reported in Delaware County and Authorities issue Warning
Delaware County Sheriffs are warning residents of some scams that are becoming prevalent in the region. Fraudsters are posing as the IRS.
In fact, the scams occur over the phone, in email or through letters with authentic looking letterhead. Taxpayers are tricked into providing personal information. fraudsters might convince victims that they are owed a refund from the IRS or some have even reportedly been threatened with arrest.
If you received these falsified letters or emails, save them for the authorities and if you have had the scam IRS phone calls, document the number. These incidents can be reported to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 800-366-4484.
