New Korean War Memorial in Binghamton

By Fox 40 Staff.
More than 2,000 soldiers from New York lost their lives in the Korean War. A new plaque is honoring these lives, along with all brave souls, who risked their life to serve their country.

The Memorial plaque is the latest addition to the All Wars Memorial located in the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena. An unveiling ceremony Friday morning featured a presentation of medals, a trumpet salute and shots fired in honor of those lives lost.

“I think it’s wonderful that people that come here will be able to see it and realize that this is not a forgotten war,” said Korean War Veteran Don Stanton.

Those at the event also honored local veteran Joe Laughney, a key figure in creating the All Wars Memorial, who passed away earlier this week. The plaque is located next to the current glass display of uniforms on the second floor of the Arena.
