Tioga Downs Gets Approved to Apply for License

A second hand for Tioga Downs has come up aces.

The New York State Gaming Facilities Location Board has recommended Tioga Downs' application to the State Gaming Commission for a fourth casino license. Tioga Downs has proposed a 195 million dollar project it says will create 840 new direct and indirect jobs.

This comes less than a year after Tioga Downs, along with traditions in Johnson City, lost out to Lago Resort in the Town of Tyre for a fourth Upstate casino license. After a number of local officials said the true Southern Tier deserved a casino, Governor Cuomo re-opened the application process, leading to today's events.

"We're trying to build a regional economy here in the Southern Tier and any good economy has tourist destinations. People going to the Finger Lakes will stop at Tioga Downs. It brings more revenue, more people, and more excitement to our community," said Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, 123rd District (D).

Tioga Downs Owner Jeff Gural has said he's ready to begin construction once the full gaming commission approves the license.
