Clayton Free on Bail for Second Time

By Fox 40 Staff.
The Binghamton native charged with killing his wife in Steuben County is free on bail for a second time.

Thomas Clayton is charged with second degree murder after his wife Kelley Clayton was found dead in their Town of Caton home on September 29. He originally posted $250,000 bail on the murder charge but was sent back to jail October 7th after allegedly violating an order of protection.

At that time bail was set at $500,000. However the defense argued bail on that misdemeanor charge should be reduced. The judge lowered the bail to $10,000 cash, which Clayton posted just before noon.

However, Chemung County District Attorney Weeden Wetmore, who on Friday was named special prosecutor on the case, tells Fox 40 Clayton needs to surrender his passport and provide a swab for DNA to police upon his release on bail.
