Suicide Prevention Is Topic of Talk At B.U.

You might be surprised to find out that an american dies by suicide every 12.95 minutes. That number comes from the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Today, Binghamton University hosted a lecture focused on this issue.

Professor Marsha Linehan spoke during the university's Annual Psychology Series.

Linehan says suicide is a tough topic for mental health professionals to handle.
Students who attended the lecture found Linehan's talk inspiring.

Chana Polishuk, event attendee, says, " I think it was a very important topic that people are afraid to talk about but very necessary. The statistics that she said about suicide were mind-boggling yet not enough research, not enough people are going to treatment for it because they're afraid."

Experts say that by spreading awareness, we can help lower the number of deaths by suicide per year.
