An accident this afternoon in Chemung County takes the life of a child.
After 3pm today, Sheriffs responded to reports of a one car accident on state route 14 in Town of Ashland. A 2002 Dodge pickup had reportedly struck a guardrail while going northerly on route 14 and drifted into a southbound lane before crashing into an embankment.
The truck had six occupants, four of which were children. The six were transported for medical assistance. One of the children was pronounced dead shortly after arriving for treatment in Elmira.
The cause of this accident is still under investigation and at this hour, no names are being released.
