Lourdes Hospital Works To Improve Certain Services

Lourdes hospital has reached an agreement with the state attorney general to improve hospital services for those with limited language abilities and limited incomes.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said the deal will bolster language assistance and financial aid services.

Officials from Lourdes say they already follow most of the requirements in the agreement such as having signage posted to allow people to point to the language they speak, and a phone service that interprets 24/7.

"If the patient doesn't understand what we are saying to them or if they aren't able to articulate to us what their medical concerns are, understand their medications, that can cause a potential safety issue," Vice President of Quality Services, Anne Wolanski said.

Lourdes staffers say they will translate some company documents to Spanish. it will also inform clientele that translation services are free.
