Local Authorities Participate in DEA Drug Take Back Day
A nationwide effort by the DEA to reduce drug abuse took place today.
Local authorities joined forces with Tioga County Council to fight alcoholism and substance abuse with the Drug Take Back initiative. They encouraged residents to turn in their expired and unused prescription medications for proper disposal.
"People use prescription medications to get high. They're highly addictive, our narcotic pain medication is highly addictive. We really want to get them out of the reach of individuals, especially children. We don't want them to be able to get into the cabinets and use these medications to overdose or use them wrong," said executive director of TCCASA Christie Speciale.
Hundreds of pounds of prescription drugs were collected in Tioga county today and they will be incinerated by the DEA.
