Fair Housing Practices Discussed in the Parlor City

In the Parlor City tonight, talk of fair housing policy.

An analysis of impediments to what is called fair housing in the City of Binghamton has been conducted by a private nonprofit group known as CNY Fair Housing, Inc. Some city officials are prepared to address these issues as required.

One listed impediment, according to CNY tests, is actions which have the effect of restricting housing choices based on race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status or national origin.

City Councilwoman Lea Webb said,"31% of the testing that was done to see if there's discriminatory practices happening in the city is alarming. It's important for us to have this information so we can begin to develop collaboratively some targeted strategies."
