A New Marathon Gets Ready To Start in Binghamton

The inaugural Dick's Greater Binghamton Marathon is about to take off with a running start.

The marathon will begin and end this Sunday at 3010 Old Vestal Road.

It will go through the rail trail and continue all the way to the Town Hall in Owego. It is USATF certified and a Boston Marathon qualifier. But race organizers say it's not just for the runners -- those cheering on racers can also enjoy the Binghamton Zoomobile and other attractions.

"This is our inaugural year and we hope to make it a tradition every single year for many years to come. It's a good tradition to have. Just like Boston Marathon, everybody looks forward to these great events in their cities," said race director William Safarik.

If you'd like to join the race, you can still sign up until 7 am Sunday morning. Visit the race's website for more details at www.binghamtonmarathon.com.
