Binghamton University Ranks Among Top Universities in the Country

Binghamton University has been named one of the top universities in the country.

U.S. News and World Report ranked the school in a seven-way tie for 89th best university in the country. Two of the other six schools BU is tied with are also SUNY schools: Stony Brook University and the SUNY College of Environmental Sciences and Forestry. U.S. News and World Report ranked schools on 16 measures of academic quality, with graduation and retention rates carrying the most weight in it's methodology. BU President Harvey Stenger says the school ranks highly on a number of academic measures with one notable exception.

"What we don't get a great score on is the academic reputation that's survey result of presidents at other universities. And that's because they don't know Binghamton University. Binghamton University is not University of Virginia, University of Michigan," said Stenger.

Stenger said that having a state in the title of your name, along with a strong football team helps with recognition.

BU ranked 37th in the country among public universities according to U.S. News and World Report.
