Dog Park Opens in Owego

By Fox 40 Staff.
It's not Disney World but if you have four legs, fur and a tail it might just be better.

The Rebecca Weitsman Memorial Dog Park in Owego opened its door to the public and canine friends Friday. The 2.4-acre park has three separate areas, one for small dogs, one for large dogs and an 8,000-square-foot agility area. Construction on the park started back in May.

Sponsor of the park Adam Weitsman said, "Just wanted to do something nice for the community in honor of my sister who passed away from cancer. She was a really big dog lover and I wanted to do something because our company's headquarters is based in Owego. So we wanted to do something special for the residents of Owego and the surrounding areas."

Binghamton resident Paul Koanui said, "I can't say enough good things about it. I think it's a great service to the residents of Owego and beyond and I know my dog is enjoying himself."

Becky Weitsman passed away in September of 2001. The Owego Dog Owners Group will perform some maintenance at the park, and is currently accepting members.
