Maggert took full advantage of Monty's week off

For the second straight year the Dick's Sporting Goods Open Champion ended the weekend on top of the Schwab Cup Leaderboard. Last year, Bernhard Langer started the weekend at number one and maintained that status through Sunday. This year, Jeff Maggert entered the weekend trailing Colin Montgomerie. Maggert took adgvantage of Monty's week off to leap frog him in the standings and take over the top spot.

"It's a long season so the points are important so as we approach the end of the season when a player skips a tournament it can set him back," Maggert said. "I knew it was an opportunity for me to make up some ground on Colin because when he does play he plays very well and usually when he's in the field you expect to see him right on the leaderboard at the end. So it was nice to get a little cushion now, but I need to work hard the next five weeks."

The next Champions Tour event on the schedule is the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach beginning on September 25th.
