A stinky day on BU's campus. the massive and malodorous corpse flower has bloomed in a campus greenhouse.
It was named the corpse flower because it smells like rotten flesh when it blooms. Its odor overwhelmed on-lookers today. But despite the smell it is a popular attraction.
Greenhouse Manager Laurie Bell said, "I have had a mortician come in and say it does smell like a rotting corpse. But the chemicals that it puts out have been the same chemical found in Limburger Cheese and sweaty socks."
The flower bloomed at BU for the first time in 2010.
