A Great Day for a Bike Ride

Area cyclists are getting a scenic tour of Binghamton on their bicycles, thanks to the Binghamton Metropolitan Transportation Study.

It's all part of the 9th Annual Binghamton Bridge Pedal held at Techworks. The nine-mile, police escorted tour went through Downtown Binghamton and areas along the river. Cyclists learned about significant sites along the way. Organizers say bike riding is a great way to see the city from a new perspective.

"Just to fall in love with bicycling again and see that we have good facilities here in the Binghamton area," said BMTS Senior Transportation Planner Scott Reigle. "You can ride for transportation, as well as recreation to go to school, work, the store; wherever you need to go."

After the ride, participants enjoyed a treat with a contest to decide the coolest dessert in town.
