An Update on the Cannonsville Dam in Deposit

The issue of the Cannonsville Dam was a topic of talk in Deposit.

The New York Department of Environmental Protection tonight told a crowd in the village that it has completed repairs on the dam, the last of precautionary grouting work. The group now has a process to make sure it works. Potential problems with the dam were noticed during preparation to put up a hydroelectric plant nearby. There was concern that sediment was seeping through the dam.

Director of Public Affairs of the Department of Environmental Protection Adam Bosch said, "Of course we later did testing that found that the sediment was not coming from the dam, there was never and issue with the dam. The dam was uncompromised and perfectly sturdy but initially there was some public safety concerns."

The DEP has conducted several tests on the dam this summer.
