BU Women's Soccer has young but experienced goaltender

Posted:
Tonight is the beginning of a new season, the Binghamton University Women's Soccer Team laces up their cleats and gets ready for St. Bonaventure at the sports complex.

The women's soccer team returns 7 of the 11 starters from last year and they went 7-9-3 in the standings. Last year the starting goaltender was Gaby Gold, the senior had 19 starts. But freshman Katie Hatziyanis played in the second half 17 of those games including the conference quarterfinal game. She's now got the keys to the driver seat starting tonight.

"I think I took a lot from how she played and now incorporating that into my game, being loud, being a presence in the goal, and I think getting that game experience is going to help me moving forward this year," said Katie Hatziyanis, Sophomore Goalkeeper.

"She's matured, her communication is exceptional, and she is getting better every single day," said Head Coach Sarah McClellan.

Game time is set for 7 pm and the Bearcats start the season with 4 home games.
