By Jason Weinstein. Wednesday begins an anticipated 30-day project to demolish a part of the Binghamton/Johnson City Joint Sewage Treatment Plant.
According to Deputy Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham demolition of a building is scheduled to make way for new facilities. The demolition is part of an overall rehabilitation of the campus.
Johnson City Mayor Greg Deemie says the composting building, which has gone unused recently, will be the one demolished. Traffic will also be affected for the next 30 days. On Old Vestal Road starting at Murray Hill Road and going west for about 400 feet, traffic will be shifted and restricted to 10-foot lanes for both east and westbound traffic.
