M-E Little League fights off DC, elimination

The Maine-Endwell Little League is now just three wins away from Williamsport and the Little League World Series after holding off Capitol City from Washington DC 10-8 on Wednesday. M-E overcame an early 3-0 deficit with a 6-run 3rd inning and never relinquished the lead.

Twice DC gave M-E a good scare, in the 5th, David Michael Jefferson hit a 2-run home run to make it 6-5. Then, DC made it 10-8 in the bottom of the 6th and loaded the bases before John Hopko got Ronan Larkin to fly out to left to end it.

Peyton Bennett led the offensive charge going 2-4 with 3 RBI. Mike Mancini added 2 RBI despite going 0-3 thanks to two run scoring walks.

M-E will now play Maryland on Friday. Maryland needed just four innings to knock off Delaware before invoking the Ten Run Mercy Rule in the 15-3 win thanks to an 8-run 4th inning.

M-E and Maryland play Friday at 7:00.
