Habitat For Humanity Transform JC Street

A new home for one lucky family in Johnson City and another underway.

Broome County Habitat for Humanity broke ground Monday on construction of a single-family home on the corner of Willow Street and Floral Ave. This property is next to a nearly-completed home habitat built over the past year on Willow Street.

One family is currently going through the process of being approved for the Willow Street home. A number of families are being considered for the home that will be built after today's groundbreaking.

"Were looking for very specific families who don't qualify for a conventional mortgage loan but who are looking for a hand up, not a hand out. Once selected they work side-by-side with our volunteers completing sweat equity," said Amy Winans, Executive Director of Broome County Habitat for Humanity.

A donation from Belknap Lumber is helping outfit both homes with windows. Monday's ground breaking marks the 28th project for Broome County Habitat for Humanity since 1994.
