Some of our state's firefighters are heading west to help fight wildfires.
Governer Andrew Cuomo announced that a crew of 20 employees and volunteers from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation are traveling out west to help with the containment of fires burning in Northern California and across the Westcoast.
The DEC has an additional four state forest rangers working west that left earlier this month.
The wildfires initially sparked back in July from lightning. Since then, fires have spread across tens of thousands of acres threatening homes.
The State's team is expected to fight fires actively for two weeks.
