600 Jobs Coming to Kirkwood Plant

By Donnie Dwyer.
Hundreds of jobs are on the way to the mostly vacant Link Simulation building in Kirkwood.

"600 jobs! This is a really, really big deal," said New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Modern Marketing Concepts, a sales and marketing firm in Kirkwood, plans to create at least 592 jobs while also retaining 310 existing jobs in the company. It plans to take this vacant industrial facility and turn it into Link Park, a multi-use facility to attract marketing and technology businesses.

"We've built over the last 29 years a culture, a technology platform and a series of products that allow the transformation of the corporations we serve in the markets which is primarily health care and building products," said Dan Babcock, CEO of Modern Marketing Concepts, Inc.

This expansion could help lower the unemployment rate in Broome County. It currently stands at 5.8 percent.

"If Modern Marketing hires primarily people from Broome County, more than 10 percent of our unemployed residents could go back to work. That's huge," said Broome County Executive Debbie Preston.

MMC considered leaving the state for options in Colorado and Florida but chose to stay because of 10.8 million dollars of state support and 4.5 million in local financing. The total cost of the expansion is $17 million.

"It has the right foundation. I think we need this opportunity and the Governor has provided that opportunity for us and its time to take advantage," said Babcock.

"Once jobs are being created, that's opportunity, hope, young people staying, people working, making salaries, and paying taxes so it's good to see it work," said Cuomo.

Babcock said he is proud to call the Southern Tier home and he looks complete the state-of-the-art facility in early 2017. He said he is focused on employee satisfaction.

"That's what this is all about, employee satisfaction, customer satisfaction, and ultimately profit," said Babcock.
