Johnson City Celebrates Its Carousels!

There are six carousels in the Broome County area, making it the self-proclaimed "Carousel Capital of the World." And Saturday the community is celebrating one of their merry-go-rounds.

Johnson City Partners held their sixth annual Carousel Day at CFJ Park. More than 4,000 people came out to the free event and enjoyed a ride on the carousel.

There were also more than 40 different activities and vendors including a blacksmith, live music, face painting, a train ride through the park and even pony rides.

"I think it's wonderful to have a community that has something free for children and adults to do for fun. And it's the memories from many, many years and we're very fortunate to have so many of them in one place, so it's very nice," said Binghamton Resident Tammy Giovinazzo.

Thursday's event helped to raise more than a-thousand dollars that will go towards the park's "Beautification Project" funds.
The project will help with park upkeep with things like trees, flowers and new signage.
