Humane Society Offers New Discount Card

You know how much money you can save when you use a rewards card at the grocery store. Now, there is a new discount card that not only saves you money at local shops, it helps the Broome County Humane Society.

Humane Society supporters celebrated the start of the program in downtown Binghamton at Dillingers Celtic Pub. The card itself costs twenty dollars with
half the money going directly to the Humane Society. Members can get discounts on purchases at a number of businesses and retail stores in Broome and Tioga counties. The Humane Society says it is a a win-win situation.

Karen Matson- Executive Director of Humane Society says "Number one, we're giving back to ourselves and partnering with the local restaurants and merchants. Local people would then say "you know what? Lets go support our local business." So people will go in and support our local businesses and we also get some of the profit from the sales of make a difference rewards card and will help pay for animals in the shelter. We're a non-profit that operates on fundraisers and donation, so this is a way to generate income and provide the extra veterinary care the animals need in the humane society.

The Humane Society is a non-profit shelter that rescues and adopts animals.
It receives no government funding.
