Accused Murderer Nigel Smith back in Court

Nigel Smith, the man charged with the robbery and murder of Bretnie Owens at his Stone Street apartment in Binghamton in the early morning hours of June 15th of 2013 made an appearance in court Friday.

The prosecution argued that Smith's absence at his parole violation hearing and subsequent flight to North Carolina was evidence of his guilt in the case, with the defense arguing that there was still no physical evidence of his role in the murder.

Judge Joseph Cawley set another appearance date for Monday, August 3rd. Smith's co-defendant in the case, Calvin Bell, was found not guilty of all charges, including second-degree murder on June 12th.
