An arrest in the case of 22 shih tzu dogs police say were found malnourished, sick, and covered in feces in Endwell on July 8th.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office has arrested dog owner Gaetana Stamos. She is charged with 22 counts of failure to provide proper sustenance/cruelty to animals. Police say the dogs were living in the basement of 310 Beckwith Avenue, confined to a few small rooms.
Police say the dogs had been living in their own feces and urine with little or no food available. Many had not been outside in 3 weeks or more. One dog had to be euthanized due to it's condition. The others are being cared for by the Humane Society until they are ready for adoption. Stamos is remanded on $3,000 cash bail.
