Broome County Health Department Checks Car Seats!

Broome County wants to make sure your child's safety comes first.

Saturday the Health Department teamed up with the sheriff's office for a free car seat check at the Oakdale Mall.
Broome County Health Department officials say it's always important to check your car seat's manufacturer's date, as most seats expire after six years.
The child safety seat checks were performed by Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians and parents were also given materials on child safety seats.

"For me, doing all of these checks over the last nine years, probably eight out of 10 car seats that we see are installed incorrectly. So that's a lot of children riding around unsafely in vehicles. So it's really important to make sure it's installed right because you want to keep them protected in the event of a crash," said Traffic Safety Coordinator for Broome County Health Department Christine Muss.

If you weren't able to make it out to get your child's car seat checked today... the Health Department will hold more seat checks throughout the months of August and September. The next check will be Saturday August 15th at the Target Store in Vestal from 10:00 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Wednesday August 19th American Legion Post 1390 in Maine from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Wednesday September 2 GHS Federal Credit Union in Binghamton 2 p.m. 5 p.m.

Saturday, September 19th Empower Federal Credit Union in Johnson City 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
