Cops Use Unique Strategy to Raise Money For Special Olympics
Police officers are "on top" of fundraising efforts using a unique strategy.
Friday morning's annual "Cops on Top" fundraising event was held at participating Dunkin Donuts in Binghamton, Johnson City and Whitney Point. During the event local officers stood on top of these buildings for the purpose of raising donations and awareness for the Special Olympics. Officials say while this strategy may seem strange to some, it has proven to be an effective method.
"Law enforcement has established a relationship with the Special Olympics program since 1982. And last year this particular location here on Front Street was the top fundraiser in Central New York," said Major for State Police Donald Faughnan.
Major Faughnan says last year's event raised thousands of dollars towards the Special Olympics and officers expect a similar outcome from this event.
