World War Two Vets Honored on 70th Anniversary of War's End

Congressman Richard Hanna led a ceremony Friday to honor more than a dozen local living veterans of World War Two.

The event at Binghamton University - which was established as a college where returning World War Two veterans could take advantage of the GI bill - came Friday on the 70th anniversary of the end of World War Two. Hanna presented each of the veterans with a flag that flew over the Capitol.

"I think it's a wonderful idea. I'd like to thank the people who put it together. This is what we've been going through for quite a few years. I know I have several memories I can't forget ," said Robert Page, a veteran of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.

Page is raising money to complete an All-Wars Memorial at Schnurbush Park in Conklin. Those of you going to the Conklin Fair this weekend can stop by the veterans memorial booth to find out how to donate.
