City of Binghamton Begins Reconstruction of Prospect Street

A smoother ride is coming to prospect street in Binghamton. The city began reconstructing the street for the first time since the late 70's.

City crews plan to mill and pave prospect street from Glenwood Avenue to the I-86 interchange for two weeks. The New York State Department of Transportation plans to pave from the I-86 interchange to Front Street once the city is done in August. City residents are happy that their morning commutes won't be as bumpy.

"And in fact literally right before this news conference was starting, there was a young woman who was walking her dog and she made a comment to councilman Jerry Motsavage and I. She said, 'Thank you very much for doing the street. But more importantly, my car thanks you!' That's the sentiment," said Binghamton Mayor Rich David.

According to the State Department of Transportation, Phase One of the prospect mountain project is 90 percent complete and is scheduled to be finished by the end of this year.
