Roberson Museum and Science Center Opens Regional Art Exhibit

A local museum is showcasing the masterpieces of regional artists.

Sunday Roberson Museum opened the 2015 Roberson Regional Art Exhibition with a judged competition. This is the fifth year that the exhibit is being held.
The art display showcases 50 carefully selected pieces from artists residing within 150 miles of Binghamton. Roberson's Executive Director, Terry McDonald, says the exhibition really showcases contemporary talents within the region.

"Art is part of Roberson's mission. And what better way to represent the art world in this region than by the artists themselves," said McDonald.

"It's great to participate in these exhibits, these regional shows, and see other work from the area. And it's nice to just see what other people are interested in and what they're pursuing, so I enjoy that aspect of it," said Brian Keeler, artist from Ithaca, NY.

The first place winner of Sunday's judged competition was David Haggins with his "Gibson House" oil painting. "Greyhound", a pastel drawing, by Denise Franchino won second place. And a painting by Carol Frejie took third. Winners received cash prizes.

The exhibit will continue at the museum through October.
