GBFC Thunder last home game of season ends in 3-3 tie

In its final regularly scheduled Keystone Conference home match, the GBFC Thunder met the Buxmont Torch FC on Visions Field at the Greater Binghamton Sports Complex today. In the end, the Thunder and the Torch tied 3-3. This tie keeps alive the Thunder’s playoff hope, but they must win tomorrow’s rematch with the Torch at Pennridge High School in the Philadelphia PA suburb of Perkasie. Travel time for the 150 mile trip is estimated to be 2 hour 40 minutes.

Buxmont opened the scoring in the game’s 14th minute on an unassisted goal by the Torch’s Sachem. The Thunder drew even at the 36 minute mark on a header by Hans Purtell on a ball crossed by Jacob Sutherland. Three minutes later the Torch again went ahead on a penalty kick converted by Sachem. The half ended with the Touch up 2-1.

Four minutes into the second half, the Thunder drew even on a penalty kick awarded when Bo Jelovac was taken down in the box. At the sixty-eighth minute, the Torch went ahead 3-2 on another penalty kick by Sa
chem. The Thunder tied the game at 3 in the 76th minute when Sean Streb redirected a pass from Jacob Sutherland past Torch keeper Jeremy Lee. The game ended 3-3.

Today’s match was the final home game in the exceptional soccer career of Thunder Captain Chris Riley. Chris was honored by the team in a halftime ceremony.
