Downtown Block Party Held in Whitney Point

Whitney Point is inviting the community out for a neighborhood celebration.
Saturday, the Mayor of Whitney Point collaborated with the village's Block Party Planning Committee to hold the third annual Downtown Celebration and Block Party.

Main Street of Whitney Point was blocked off as more than 300 people enjoyed free activities like a dunk tank, live music, hot dogs, snow cones and a petting zoo at the library.

There were also local vendors selling goods like jewelry and handmade pottery.

"I like the idea of everyone knowing everyone and everyone helping everyone out. You know, local business supporting local business, and keeping stuff here and at home. I think that's important," said Co-Organizer of Whitney Point Block Party Jillian Saddlemire.

Organizers say that they hope to continue growing the event each year and are already planning ideas for next year's block party.
One idea so far is "Christmas in July."
