Binghamton Police Chief Zikuski Returns from Leave

Binghamton Police Chief Joseph Zikuski was back on the job Wednesday, his first day since he was placed on a paid administrative leave in March.

Mayor Rich David placed Zikuski on the leave after Binghamton Police Officer Kristi Sager filed a sexual harassment complaint against him and the City of Binghamton with the New York State Division of Human Rights. Sager's complaint accused the Chief of making sexual advances towards her, other female officers and the wives of other male officers. The Mayor ordered an independent review of the Police Department's policies and procedures and onTuesday said the report showed, "no complaints or evidence of harassment or discrimination within the department."

The report did state that generally the policies were satisfactory; however, it suggested that they should be revised to be more compatible with each other and reflect recent interpretations by courts and administrative agencies. It also recommend training every two years specific to harassment and discrimination.
