Latest on Prospect Mountain Construction

Trying to take advantage of the window between the end of SUNY Broome's spring semester and Spiedie Fest.

Crews are completing a key piece of the Prospect Mountain Project near Front Street.

Workers paved the ramp on Exit 5 on Route 81 Southbound leading to Front Street and SUNY Broome.

The work will result in the ramp going from two lanes to three.

"An independent right-turn lane so that people can go northbound without having to impede the traffic that's going straight onto Old Front Street or making that left-hand turn to go southbound on Front Street," said Dave Hamburg, Public Information Officer for Region 9 of the New York State Department of Transportation.

Phase One of the Prospect Mountain Construction Project is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2015.

By the end of the summer work should be done allowing traffic from 81 South to flow directly to 17 West, without being diverted to one lane on the left, as it is currently.
