The State's Department of Environmental Conservation has made it official fracking is banned in New York State.
The agency released what's called a Formal Findings Statement Monday, ending a seven-year review of the drilling practice.
Commissioner Joe Martens said fracking, "Poses significant adverse impacts to land, air, water, and natural resources."
Environmental advocates praised the move. But the American Petroleum Institute says the decision prevents what would be increased annual household incomes, as well as energy savings fracking would bring to New York.
The API claims fracking is being done safely across the country.
The Cuomo Administration announced it would ban fracking last December.
