New Housing Development Coming to Downtown Binghamton

By Fox 40 Staff.
A historic building in the City of Binghamton is getting a modern makeover as two Binghamton University alumni are leading the project.

Developers Syed Ali and Adam Ibrahim announced a 2.5 million dollar housing project on 73 Court Street. This 20,000-square foot renovation will incorporate 12 new apartments for young professionals and families. Much of the renovations will include spaces that have been vacant for more than 40 years. The developers, seeking state and federal sustainable building grants, plan green energy construction including a led lighting retrofit, solar panels and a rainwater harvesting system. The building’s ground floor will continue to serve a commercial use.

"Where we take a different spin is this is market rate. we are not tailored to students or looking to bring in students. we are looking to bring in young professionals, families, individuals of that sort. The second thing is the technology. That's a two fold where one of the specialties is the automation where you will have iPads instead of light switches in certain areas," said Syed Ali, President of Fortress Development.

This project is scheduled to begin in September and be completed in early 2016.
