Southern Tier Residents Attend First Day Of Strawberry Festival

Thousands of Southern Tier residents headed out to the 35th Annual Strawberry Festival.

Friday the block party kicked off at 5:00 p.m. with plenty of activities, music and food.

And the favorite dessert remains the same year after year: strawberry shortcake!

As always admission is free but organizers are also accepting donations that will go towards maintenance for the
Historic Owego Marketplace. Owego residents say the festival is a staple in the community.

Owego Resident Irene Edwards said, "Just seeing everybody come out for this special day people come from out of town and people that lived here years ago or graduated from here and now they come back to see people and eat strawberries (laughs)."

Festivities will continue with a parade Saturday morning beginning at 9 a.m. Organizers do ask those attending to park their cars at Hickories or the Tioga County Fairgrounds where buses will shuttle people into the festival.
