Vestal Elementary School Recognizes Those Dedicated To Fitness

As the school year draws to a close, students and teachers at Vestal Hills Elementary School gathered to celebrate those in the "100 mile club."

Medals were given out to both students and teachers who logged 100 or more miles of jogging or walking. Last year the school received a $1,000 grant through the active schools acceleration project, a program started by First Lady Michelle Obama to encourage physical wellness in schools.

"Our students have the opportunity during their playground time to go out and run our bear trail which is about a third of a mile and many students use that opportunity to jog, to run, to walk even to roll to earn their miles," said Crystal Harvey, 100 Mile Program Coordinator.

The school hopes to continue the program next year as well.
