Owego Organizers Prepare for Strawberry Festival

Owego is gears up for its 35th Annual Strawberry Festival.

Festivities kick off with a block party Friday beginning at 5 p.m. and will continue Saturday at 9 a.m. as well.

Visitors can enjoy plenty of food, music and arts -- and this year fest features a local artist's paintings available for purchase for $20.

"We've got something really special, we have a commemorative poster by Michael Husted who's a local artist here in Owego he works at Vanhorn Jewelers as well, so were very excited about it and we'll be selling it."
Artist Michael Husted said, "Rather than do something that was more like a logo or local art I opted to do more of an impressionistic type painting. I've seen the town just become a wonderful place to live and do business. Anything that promotes Owego I'm all in favor of."

Proceeds made from the strawberry themed paintings will go toward maintenance for the historic owego marketplace. Admission is free and all festivities are right in downtown Owego.

Organizers ask that visitors park their cars at Hickories or the Tioga County fairgrounds while buses shuttle into the festival.
