Cultural Center Raises Funds for Nepal Earthquake Victims

A cultural center is raising money for those affected by the earthquake in Nepal earlier this year.

Sunday, the India Cultural Center in Vestal held a "Stand with Nepal Earthquake Victims" charity fundraiser. The event helps to benefit people of Nepal who were affected by a major earthquake.
According to the Center for International Disaster Information more than 6.6 million people were affected by a magnitude 7.8 earthquake on April 25.

Sunday's event was a full house and those who attended enjoyed cultural dances and music from the Himalayan region.

"Nepal is a small country, it's a very nice country. For people who have visited the country, they come back with a lot of wonderful feelings about it. And the dancers are all from Nepali origin and they came to this country as refugees. It's a wonderful thing when we are supporting and helping raise money for a disaster event in Nepal," said Board Member of the India Cultural Center Sambit Saha.

Organizers say they hope to raise more than $8,000 through the event and proceeds will go towards the SEVA Foundation, a non-profit international health organization.
