Rocketfest Kicks Off at Kopernik Observatory

More than 300 people attended the Kopernik Observatory's 7th annual Rocketfest Saturday launching more than 100 model rockets. Families were invited to build and launch their own rockets at the event with rocket building workshops held throughout the day. Other activities included solar observations, a rocket display by Lee Bradshaw, door prizes, raffles and a lunar sample display.

"It's an opportunity for the families to really do something together where it's not mom and dad doing their own thing or making the kids do their homework. Together they are working as a unit to create something and then, in this case, launch a rocket. And that's been the really fun part," said Executive Director of Kopernik Drew Deskur.

Officials say Saturday's event helps to kick start the Kopernik summer camp programs.
