Thomas now striving for big leagues

What kid hasn't been in his backyard or at the park picturing himself in a crucial moment in the 9th inning of Game 7 of the World Series. That was certainly the case for BU grad Jake Thomas who was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 27th round of the MLB Draft on Wednesday.

While the big leagues are likely a few years away, Thomas looks to carry over the same work ethic he had at BU to the pros.

"Now that I've got my foot in the door, my goal is to make it to the top," Thomas said. "I think that's every guy's goal from the moment they start playing baseball as a little kid. So, to even have a chance to continue to strive for that is pretty awesome."

"I'm thrilled for him because he's a truly an outstanding young man and was the definition of a student-athlete here at the school," said BU Head Coach Tim Sinicki. "As good as a player as he was in games he may have been even better of a role model and a practice player for our guys to watch and learn from. It's always a thrill when good things happen to good people and Jake certainly is that type of individual."

Thomas is the 10th Bearcat ever drafted and the 4th in the last four years. He will next travel to Dunedin, FL for training camp and a physical. He has yet to receive his first assignment but says it will likely be either with Short Season Single-A Vancouver Canadians or the Rookie Level Bluefield Blue Jays.
