Emergency Personnel Participate in Airport Emergency Training

In the case of emergency, it's always good to be prepared. That was the idea at the Greater Binghamton airport Saturday morning.

Saturday, the Airport held a mock disaster drill. The drill simulated what it would be like to care for multiple victims after a jet plane accident.

There were even volunteers acting out how family may react to an incident of this nature. The purpose of this practice exercise is to test the airport's emergency plan through a controlled accident scenario and identify the areas that need improvement. Aviation officials say thepractice ensures personnel are always prepared in the event of an actual emergency.

"There's nothing better to be prepared for an event than to actually walk through the event as if it's actually happening. And they get that real-life experience of actually dealing with the situation," said Commissioner of Aviation David Hickling.

Additional participating agencies in the event included volunteer fire departments, emergency personnel from Lourdes Hospital and the American Red Cross.
