Foundation for Community Betterment Needs Community Support to Win Grant

A local group that supports those in need due to illness, flood, or fire is looking for a helping hand of it's own.

The Binghamton chapter of the Foundation for Community Betterment wants your vote to help it earn a $25,000 grant through State Farm. The group says it will use the money to help pay for transportation for medical treatment, wheelchairs, mobility vans, and making homes handicapped accessible. You can search State Farm Neighborhood Assist on Facebook to vote for the Binghamton Betterment Project.

"Putting $25,000 into this community, where we can use it to impact the daily lives of the people who need help, is an incredible opportunity," said Jared Bowling, Co-chair of Zooneyfest.

The Betterment Foundation must finish in the top 40 of the 200 projects vying for grants to receive the money. Right now the Betterment Foundation is 50th in the voting, which ends June 3rd. One of the Binghamton Foundation's more notable events is Zoonefest, which has raised over $210,000 since 2005 for those in need, including patients dealing with ALS - or Lou Gehrig's disease.
