Vestal seniors guiding young teammates through playoffs

The Vestal Golden Bears girls lacrosse team has won four straight Section IV Titles. The success has been limited to that after early exits in the first round of the state playoffs each of the last three years. This year, the Bears are guided by their three senior captains who now know how hard it is to make a run at a state title and are pushing the young team to go the extra mile.

"We just treat them like one of us," said Tomasina Leska, senior co-captain. "We expect as much out of them as we do ourselves. We really click well as a unit, so I think it's important to build that teamwork."

"We need that leadership," said Head Coach Dave Williams. "The leadership that those three girls have given this team has been excellent and you see the results on the scoreboard because we've got a lot of really young players on this team. There's only three seniors and they play so well together."

Vestal plays Section III's Watertown on Thursday at Maine-Endwell at 6:00.
