Southern Tier Seniors Celebrate National Senior Health and Fitness Day
Southern Tier seniors were moving and grooving Wednesday morning to kick-off National Senior Health and Fitness Day.
The senior living facility Hearth at Castle Gardens held a day filled with fitness events to promote the benefits of staying active while aging.
Senior residents participated in bowling, swimming, basketball and other activities that develop necessary behaviors for healthy lives.
"It does a lot of things for your body. It makes you happier, of course the health benefits are very positive... it just gives you a better outlook on life and it's just an amazing feeling," said Paula Francisco, Director of Activities.
The motto for this year's National Senior Health and Fitness Day, "if you keep moving, you'll keep improving", was created by Hearth's 101-year-old resident Carolyn Heeter.
