Kindergarten Students Ride Broome County's Carousel History

By Fox 40 Staff.
History came alive one turn at a time Wednesday for kindergarten students at George F. Johnson Elementary School in Endicott.

The kids rode all six carousels in the Greater Binghamton area Wednesday. Teachers say the trip helped the kids celebrate the end of the school year and learn more about George F Johnson, who helped establish Endicott and build the carousels.

"I think the kindergarten kids take advantage of the opportunity every Memorial Day to Labor Day to visit the parks and ride (carousels). This year we decided to take it a step further and give them an opportunity to learn a little about the history," said Tom Ferraro, Kindergarten teacher at George F. Johnson Elementary School.

The six carousels are at the following locations: Rec Park and Ross Park in Binghamton, West Endicott Park and George W. Johnson Park in Endicott, Highland Park in Endwell, and C Fred Johnson Park in Johnson City.
